Golf in Barcelona: where to play and practise

Barcelona is one of the few major European capitals with no golf course inside the city limits. That doesn’t mean you can’t play — it means choosing between driving out of town or playing in the city a different way. This guide compares the real options by time, price and travel, so you can pick the one that fits today.

Short answer: there are no 18-hole courses inside the city of Barcelona. To play without leaving town, the option is an indoor simulator, such as the Trackman 4 bays at Eagle Club on Carrer Muntaner 202 (Eixample), from €30 per player per hour. The grass courses are out in the metropolitan area and need a car and half a day.

Are there golf courses in Barcelona city?

No. The courses around Barcelona all sit outside the city boundary — in the Vallès, the Baix Llobregat, the Maresme and the Garraf. They are 20 to 45 minutes away by car, and in practice public transport is not a comfortable way to get there carrying a bag of clubs.

The consequence is one that anyone living in Barcelona already knows: playing 18 holes is not a two-hour plan, it is a half-day plan. Between the drive, the round and the drive back, a whole morning or afternoon is gone. That is why, inside the city, golf is played differently.

All four are golf, but they solve different problems. The course is the full experience. Pitch & putt is the short game. The range is repetition. The simulator is the only one that fits on a weekday, after work, without depending on the weather.

Playing without leaving the Eixample: Eagle Club

Eagle Club is an indoor golf club at Carrer Muntaner 202, a five-minute walk from Diagonal metro station. It has four private bays with Trackman 4 simulators — the same measurement technology used on the PGA Tour: every shot is measured for ball speed, spin, launch angle and real carry.

Each bay is an enclosed space with a sofa, a table and a screen, for up to four people. There are more than 200 of the world’s courses to play, plus game modes for anyone who has never held a club: targets, challenges and mini-golf. No handicap, no federation licence and no membership are needed to book.

If you are new to the city, this matters: coaching is available in English, and you do not need a Spanish federation licence to play here.

How much does golf cost in Barcelona?

  • Simulator at Eagle Club: from €30 per player per hour in the morning, and from €17.50 per player per hour in a group of four in the afternoon. No travel cost.
  • Lesson with a qualified coach: from €70 an hour, or from €60 a lesson with the ten-lesson pack. Equipment included.
  • Green fee at a course nearby: roughly €60 to €150 per player depending on the course and the day, plus the car and four to five hours of play. Worth checking each club, as the range is wide.

Put another way: an hour in a simulator in the morning costs less than the trip out to many courses, and in that hour you hit considerably more balls than you would in a full round.

How long does it take?

Between 45 and 60 minutes per player on your own, and around two hours if three or four of you share a bay. That is less than half of what a real round takes once travel is counted, which is exactly why the simulator works as an after-work plan and the course does not.

Choosing by what you actually want

  • I want to try golf for the first time. Simulator with a coach. No equipment, no handicap, nothing to know beforehand, and nobody waiting behind you.
  • I want to improve between rounds. Simulator. Trackman data tells you what is going wrong; on a course you only see where the ball ends up.
  • I want a weekday plan with friends. Simulator in the afternoon, when it comes to €17.50 a head in a group of four.
  • I want the full round experience. An 18-hole course, with a car and half a day ahead of you.
  • I just want to hit balls. A driving range, or a bay in practice mode if you would rather stay in the city.
