What does the Trackman 4 simulator measure, and why do the pros use it?

Quick answer

Trackman 4 measures more than 30 parameters of the swing and the ball on every shot, including club head speed, angle of attack, spin rate, launch angle, carry distance and smash factor. It is the same dual radar the PGA Tour players use. Its accuracy (margin of error under 1 metre at 250 metres) is why it is present at more than 90% of professional Tour stops.

The main parameters Trackman 4 measures

• Club Head Speed: the speed of the club head at impact.
• Attack Angle: the vertical angle of the club’s path.
• Club Path: the horizontal direction of the club’s path.
• Face Angle: the orientation of the club face at impact.
• Ball Speed: the speed of the ball after impact.
• Launch Angle: the vertical launch angle of the ball.
• Spin Rate: the ball’s revolutions per minute.
• Carry: the ball’s flight distance.
• Total Distance: total distance including roll.
• Smash Factor: the efficiency of the strike.

Why the pros use it

PGA Tour players train with Trackman because it lets them quantify every technical decision. If you change your grip, your stance or your swing plane, Trackman immediately shows how it affects the data. That turns training into evidence-based iteration rather than subjective feel.

Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and most of the world’s Top 100 train regularly with Trackman. It is also used by club fitters (TaylorMade, Titleist, Ping, Callaway) to tune equipment to each player with millimetre precision.

Less than 1 metre of error at 250 metres, according to the manufacturer’s data. It is the accuracy approved for use in PGA Tour tournaments.

How much does a new Trackman 4 cost?

A portable Trackman 4 unit costs around €20,000-25,000. The full simulator version can exceed €50,000.

Do I need to be an advanced player to get value from it?

No. Beginners get instant feedback on every shot, which speeds up the learning curve compared with a driving range without data.
